Your privacy is of huge importance to Joy Street Poetry. We exist at a distance from a world that sells data, tracks habits, and fills inboxes with targeted ads. Just poetry, sent with care. We never sell your information and never use it for advertising — we share it only with the trusted services that help us run the subscription, all of which are listed openly below.
At Joy Street Poetry, we are committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 of New Zealand and, where it applies, the UK and EU GDPR. This Privacy Statement outlines how we collect, use, store, and disclose your personal information.
Last updated: June 2026.
We collect personal information that is necessary for processing your subscription and delivering our services. This may include your name, postal address, email address and payment details.
Your personal information is used solely for the purpose of processing and managing your subscription, delivering Joy Street Poetry pieces to your postal address and communicating with you regarding your subscription, including any changes to pricing or terms, which will be included in your subscription delivery.
We never sell your personal information, and we never share it for advertising. We do rely on a small number of trusted service providers to run the subscription. They only receive the information needed to do their job, and only use it on our behalf:
We may also disclose personal information where required by law. If our business is ever transferred to new ownership, your information may transfer with it, and you will be told.
Joy Street Poetry does not use advertising or tracking cookies. Our visitor analytics (provided by Vercel) are cookie-free and measure only overall visits — they do not build a profile of you or follow you across other websites. If you sign in to an account, a small essential cookie keeps you securely logged in. As noted above, your IP address is briefly used on the Subscribe page to show local pricing.
Some of our service providers are based outside New Zealand — for example Stripe, Vercel, Formspree and Google (United States), and our database (Japan). This means your personal information may be stored or processed overseas. We only use reputable providers who are required to protect your information to standards comparable to the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and applicable data-protection laws.
We take reasonable steps to ensure your personal information is stored securely to prevent unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure. This includes implementing physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard the information we collect.
You can ask us at any time to access the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. To make a request, email us at [email protected] or use our contact page.
If you are in the United Kingdom or European Union, the UK and EU GDPR give you additional rights, including the right to access, correct, erase, or port your data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Our lawful bases for processing are: performance of your subscription contract (to take payment and post your poems), legitimate interests (to run and improve the website and prevent fraud), and consent where you have given it. You may withdraw consent at any time, and you have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office).
We keep your personal information only for as long as you are a subscriber, and for a reasonable period afterwards to meet our legal, tax, and accounting obligations (generally up to seven years for billing records). Poem submissions that are not selected are deleted within twelve months. You can ask us to delete your information sooner — see "Your rights" above.
We may update this Privacy Statement from time to time. Any changes will be communicated through your subscription delivery.
If you have any questions or concerns about our privacy practices, please contact us at [email protected].
